I am working on 2 separate databases for two departments, each of which has a private folder on a server (set up as private on Windows 2000 Professional on a network based on individual names) One department wants to extract a particular item of data out of the other department's database.

Is this possible to link the two databases (i.e., generate a report in one based on query results from the other) without giving access to the rest of the database or private folder, which contains confidential data? I don't want them to be able to view the other database, just the resulting information from the query...how many widgets did the other department generate in a prompted time frame (paramaters provided when query runs).

1. Is this possible?
2. If it is possible & requires this front/back access thing, can you describe how to do that, as I have heard about it, but have never done it.

Thanks for your help!
