I have an access database in a shared drive, and when a user is using the database, it is blocked for others.

What can I do to avoid this from hapening?

Hmm..

sometimes a person will open the database in Exclusive mode.

File Open, then in the bottom right corner is the open button. You can click on the down arrow and select which mode to open in.

Or you can assign exclusive mode to a shortcut when you run access.

Search through the forum for more hints.

Thanks for your help

It is solved by opening exclusively

Workgroup security can cause individual users to no longer have the OpenExclusive permission within the database.

The forum has many articles on "Workgroup security" and "Securing a database" - which is the topic you need to review. "Securing" when you meant to "share" the database sounds like a contradiction - but that is just the way MS talks.
