Could someone give me a little tutorial on references. My database runs in Access 97.
What references should be active?
I have checked..
Visual basic for applications
Microsoft Access 8.0 Object Library.
Microsft DAO 2.5/3.5 compatability Library.

Microsft DAO 3.5 object Library is not checked
Microsft DAO 3.6 object Library is not checked

My plan is to tidy up my DB before migrating to 2003

Thanks

I would think that this could only be completely answered by the person who built the db as there could or couldn't be many different things going on. For example, you may have used an library object that only you know about...

I guess the acid test would be to uncheck an item then run the db through the paces and see if it zonks, if not, leave it unchecked...

???

Thanks for your lightning response Ken.

I built the DB starting with Access V1 then 2 then 97. When 2000 came out I hit a brick wall with the conversion. Now I want to upgrade to v2003 it looks like I have to sort out the compatability issues as running Convert database in 2003 results in a crash to desk.

All the VBA stuff scares me but I'd love to get to grips with it. It just seems like a foreign language.

I just tried taking out 2.5/3.5 and tried out 3.5 and 3.6. I tried compile and save all modules and it didn't like a field I have named [Range] so it looks like I'll have to change that.

I would also make a simple list of each issue as it arises during the conversion as well as what you did to fix it. Otherwise the conversion drill may become overwhelming :)

My experience has been that after you do a conversion or two and kind of get an idea of what to expect, they really aren't that bad :)

It looks like I've some work to do making by DB compatable with 3.6 before I get to the conversion.
Thank for your help. I sure I'll be back on this forum quite a bit over the next few weeks.
Regards
