I have a problem in making reports in access 2007 final.
I can't add related fields into my report.

I found this page here: http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cach...vailable+in+related+tables&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1

That says: If you have set the form or report's Record Source property to a saved query, the Field List pane displays only the Fields available for this view section (there is no Show all tables option at the bottom of the Field List pane). To edit the record source, right-click any one of the fields, and then click Edit Record Source.

What does that mean????

Here are my screenshots with the same database:

Note the "fields available in related tables" where is it in final version!!!

I don't have Access 2007 but I would guess it means pretty much what it says. If you report is based on a query then you have the opportunity to edit that query directly (rather than leaving the report editor and having to open the query editor). Some reasons you might want to do this is because you want another field to appear in you report that isn't currently in the underlying query or you want to change the criteria of the query.

Do you actually have a problem trying to do something or were you just enquiring about the message?

I cant add these related tables in final version 2007 but I can in in beta 1. So this feature was available in beta 1, you could add from query and from tables, but now in final 2007 only from tables. That is the problem.

I taught some of you may have upgraded to access 2007, and have more experience by now. Perhaps there is somebody that would help to solve me this problem with access 2007.

Your pictures aren't showing up so I'm not able to see what you're talking about. I'm not sure exactly what is happening for you. I have Access 2007, the final release, and everything seems to work fine for me. But, maybe I'm just not understanding what you're asking.

Not sure why you aren't getting the related tables list, unless your relationships aren't set. I have it showing up in mine.

I guess we could have you post your database or send it to me and I can see if it opens in mine with that.

It must be some corruption or bug. I have tried it and it definitely doesn't work with your reports, but with new reports in your database. So, I guess it must have something to do with the interim between the beta and the final release.

Bob,

Was this database first created using the Beta 1 build?

I believe they said it was.

What happens if you import all the objects into a new 2007 RTM build container?

Do you mean it does not work with my reports but if you create a new report with 2007 final it works?

Exactly, that's what I found out. I tried creating a new report in your database and it worked, but it didn't with the existing reports. Also, I tried importing it all into a new blank database and it still worked the same way; the existing didn't work and new ones did.

Hmm, is there a way to fix my reports in the new final version? It was quite an effort to make them (I mean positioning things to make them all the same etc. besides the code of cause)?

You can copy the code and paste it into the reports. But, I don't think you'll have a way, short of creating new ones. But, you really shouldn't need to do so, as you shouldn't really need to use that feature anyway. All you need to do is add the appropriate fields to your underlying queries and the fields will be added to the list.

Thanks the database report record source edit feature does work in final than it beta1 I think I'll have to use it like you said. Thanks.

I would suspect that under the hood, there are some file format/properties between the Beta 1 and RTM which are affecting things. I think if you really want that functionality, you'll need to start from scratch in a final release container, or as Bob said, just manually adjust the fields.

Perhaps there is some third party access recovery tools for 2007? I could try them for recovering reports.

Not that I've followed the thread closely, but have you tried the (hidden) methods SaveAsText/LoadFromText?

In a copy of the db

SaveAsText acReport, "NameOfReport", "c:\rpt.txt"
LoadFromText acReport, "NameOfReport", "c:\rpt.txt"
