Could someone please recommend several Access 2002 books for a newbie?
I've been using a college textbook/tutorial, but also need good reference books with solutions and examples. I've visited several bookstores and found what appear to be good choices. However, I'm hesitant to spend the $$ unless someone recommends them.

Thx,

WWR

I would hate to recommend a book for this sort of subject. Problem is that there are many good books out there until you actually purchase one?

Point being is that I have bought books like this in the past and they have always been great until you find that they don't answer a question that you have a real need to know----So, you revisit the bookstore and buy another book that appears to answer that question and a few more besides and they are great until they won't answer the next essential question and so on and so forth.

Pretty soon you find yourself with a rack full of textbooks that you will rarely, (if ever), refer too again (they go out of fashion as fast as software). You have given the publishing houses loads of dollars that you could have spent on a more useful upgrade or having fun.

With the expertise available on this and other forums I will never buy another text book on Access again. I'd much rather spend time and money supporting the forums.

They are more comprehensive; contain a library full of knowledge and references, examples, etc. Are more educational, witty and fun.

And, for the icing on the cake, give you a perfect excuse to spend hours browsing the WWW. They even justify the expense of a private BB connection.

So why waste your money? You will find the answers to most if not all of your early questions here and, if after searching, you genuinely can't find an answer then post------someone will gladly point you in the right direction.

However if you feel the need, I used to rely on the "dummies" series and the Access Bible.

If you're looking for problems and solutions, the Access Cookbook is where it's at. Otherwise, I suggest you browse this forum and the Dev Ashish Access Web (http://www.mvps.org/access) for examples of problems and solutions.

You can always try to find used books on http://www.Amazon.com

You can find really good deals because as Parker said "they go out of fashion as fast as software".

The Access Cookbook is my personal favorite if you want to learn VBA. It is organized into problem areas and provides code solutions. I also have a couple of Troubleshooting Access books which are an invaluable source of obscure information. There are a number of free sample databases that have also been invaluable to me. Here's a link to their web addresses - Sample Downloads
