Good morning everyone,

I'm new to this forum and to access programming as well.

I'd like to learn to program on access and i saw on amazon that his book is very well rated but the only problem is that is about access 2002 and I'm using access 2010.

Do you think it can be useful anyway to buy it ?

Thank you in advance,

Regards.

No good. Far too different from 2010.

Better off getting a Dummies or Idiot book. They are easy to read a give a quick introduction to some fancy code. I prefer the Dummies Books. I have several and yes you can laugh if you wish.

These books are very much underrated.

Thank you for your reply.

I read as well about the dummies books but they are a too easy read for what i want. I'm already familiar to access and vba language but i want to learn to program in access.

I bought access 2002 enterprise developer's handbook as it costed me 1 dollar but then i realised i need the desktop version to understand this one.

Thank you for your attention,

Regards.

In that case there is no particular book that I would recommend. Each book takes you on a particular path and if this is not the path you want then that is no good for you.

Next best thing is to spend the time browsing at a Technical Book Store. A real book shop or perhaps a Library attached to your local University. I am not a student so I can't borrow but I can research. If I find a book that I like I can go online.

The other thing is that there is a massive amount of information on the web. Some very good some not so good.

Maybe someone here has a favourite book that they would recommend. :)

One other thought.

This forum will help a lot if you simply take the time to prepare your questions properly.

I will surly become an active user of this forum as i am on excel's ones.

I just saw that there 's an offer an it would cost me less than 5 dollars to buy that book so i'm gonna give it a try even if it ' about access 2002. I don t think that the basics will change a lot, and a lot of people says that tgey used this book for access 2007 as well ( that is pretty similar to 2010).

That said, thank you a lot for your attention :) hope to be able o help you in few months :p

Regards.

The basic rules etc. on how to build a Database are the same.

The interface for Access 2007 on wards has changed dramatically. Also the latter versions are not always backward compatible.

However for the price it sounds like a good idea.

Older books work well enough if it is VBA you are interested in. The interface changed dramatically between A2003 and A2007 and it changed again with A2010. So if you are looking for guidance on how to build objects using the GUI, the instructions would be difficult to follow.

I like the Access Cookbook version 2. It hasn't been updated in some years but it is a good resource for coding. If it is SQL you want to learn about, there are some that concentrate on Jet/ACE but not many. The other SQL variants are similar but not in the "difficult" areas such as crosstabs. You wouldn't easily be able to translate the samples. I do like SQL books that show SQL for multiple environments because they will help you if you ever have to transition to something else or if you have to write pass-through queries.

I would recommend Alison Balter's Mastering Microsoft Office Access 2007 Development if you want VBA at an intermediate - advanced level.

I also like John Viescas' Inside Out books. John Viescas also has a Building Access Applications with 2003 that is good for VBA.

for pure VBA, the VBA Developers Handbook (well over 1000 pages) (Getz and Gilbert) takes some beating.

find a cheap old copy if you can. VBA hardly changed.

Thank you guys. Before postinh this thread i ordered inside out so i will start with that and in case i'll need to buy a new one i'll keep in mind your suggedtions.

Regards.
