Has anyone else run into this issue.

After I compacted the database, I had no functionality. When I looked, all the tables were GONE and all but a few of the queries. All the forms and reports were ok, but unless the buttons were linked to other forms - they were non-functional. Thank Goodness for backups.

Anyway, the only thing that I have been able to figure out is that when you compact, the software makes a copy of itself, compacting as it does so, a the same time systematically wiping out the old file. However, in this case, something stops the process, and therefore the "new" file is deleted as not completed and you're left with half a database, but with no tables.

I've had the problem sent to Microsoft, but after several months, they're still trying to figure it out...

Is this happening on your local machine or when you compact a database that is on the network and you are connecting to it via your local machine?

I have been able to reproduce the problem in both situations - on a server and on different individual PC's. Microsoft has a copy of the Access database and has also been able to reproduce the problem.

Thanks for the tip, although I am aware of this information, and the problem does not seem to be the same. In my case, I do not get the dialogue box - it just goes to complete and on the surface, appears to be fine. That is until you try to enter data.

After compacting, it opens the main form. Forms open other forms just fine. Only when you try to open a form, or report linked to a table or query do you realize there is a problem.
