access accounts database

Hi all
im looking to put together an accounts database for my small business. I cant find much on the web for this subject
Im looking at the tables and what i need .
I know I am going to need a chart of accounts Table
and also a table with the clases of account eg sales outgoings ect

i want my sales table to have account 4000to 4999
how would i structure my table for that do i start with access auto number and then a field for the accounts numbers

also are there any tutorials for accounts databases
all help very much appreciated

You don't have to use autonumber field as PK for chart of accounts table. Just have a number field for the numeric account number and a text field for account name.

Are you trying to build a double-entry accounting app? Recommend would be better to buy off-the-shelf, like QuickBooks.

What is your personal/business fiscal liability for this system?

I'll second June7's suggestion. Better to get an existing system that does what you need rather than try to reinvent the wheel.

This becomes much more important if you have liability and you are not POSITIVE you know what you are doing.
