I have a small Access DB (multi-user) on a network that keeps turning into a read-only DB, with a message bar saying please save as . . . and it will not let you complete that. It seems to lock the application, and when I can get everyone out and copy the file out I can finally get it back to its normal state.
Any suggestions as to what is going on?

Thank you,
Everett

what are you trying to save? if data, that should not be a problem, but if you are trying to make changes to tables, forms, reports etc whilst other users are in the db then your only option is to boot them out.

Even if it is small you should have your db split FE/BE and each user has a copy of the FE. Then the only time you need to boot them out is if you are making changes to the BE structure. You would work on your copy of the FE and when you are ready to release you can send the users a new copy.

My first concern with this little DB is that it is changing its permissions to this read-only state all by itself. Changing the DB into a FE/BE is a good suggestion, but I have to let it be used for a while before I lock it down.

you haven't answered my question

what are you trying to save?

unless you are only trying to insert or amend values in tables what you are describing is perfectly normal when there is more than one user in the db.

If you are saying you are only trying to insert or amend values in tables then this implies records are being locked.
