Hi,

I would like to use Access 2003 Runtime but I am having difficulty getting it installed. I have Microsoft Office 2003 and I have just installed Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office which I've been told is compatable with 2003. When I go to the Start menu >> All Programs >> Microsoft Office >> I can't see Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions. I thought that I must not have the visual studio package installed correctly but I deleted it and re-installed it. I was just wondering if there was any other suggestion as to why its not working or is there something else that I need?

Thank you :-)

You would need to go open Visual Studio and not going through the Microsoft Office start menu.

You don't need to install Visual Studio 2005 to get Access 2003 Runtime but you do need to own it to distribute access runtime.

Access runtime should be on one of the discs that came with Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office called 'Access Developer Extensions 2003'.

After installing it you should see it from All Program > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions

The Access runtime software and the royalty-free Access runtime license formerly shipped as part of a Microsoft Office Developer (MOD) product with earlier versions of Microsoft Office. For Access 2003, the Access runtime software is shipped with the Microsoft Office Access 2003 retail product, and the royalty-free Access runtime license is a component of the Access 2003 Developer Extensions. Even though the runtime software is included in the Microsoft Office Access 2003 retail product, the right to distribute the runtime is not included. You must purchase the Access 2003 Developer Extensions to obtain a royalty-free license to package and distribute the runtime.

If memory serves me right!!!

You must purchase the Access 2003 Developer Extensions to obtain a royalty-free license to package and distribute the runtime.

Access 2003 Developer Extensions can not be purchased as a stand alone piece of software. You need to purchase Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office.

A2007 runtime is free to distribute but I havent tested if it will run an A2003 DB?

I run mdb files on Access 2007 Runtime without encountering any problems.

Are your mdb files created with A2003?

Hi,

In one of your response to a thread that to deploy runtime db to our client we should purchase Developer Extension kit.

So it means that if I creates my db as runtime version and send it my client to install it and he will install let us successfully. Does it mean that even he does not have intalled Office 2003 / Access, he could run under any windows platform?

One more thing from where I can purchase this Access 2003 Developer Extensions to obtain a royalty-free license to package and distribute the runtime?

In the market I just seen only Office 2003 CDs available.

Thanks for your time.

You don't create dbs as runtime, your db does not change. Runtime is the same as normal Access just with no design options. You would need to install runtime on each PC that does not have Office 2003 / Access.

I have not tested this but it may be possible to use Access 2007 runtime (free) and run your Access 2003 db on it.

IC

Thanks for the info zigzag.

I like very much 2003 Access other than any version. But since age is changing I will install 2007. Then I will create dbs in 2003 to run in 2007 runtime. Let us hope it would work. And I will install 2007 runtime at my client site so that my 2003 db would work I hope

Thannks guys.

And ensure you know where to find your customised Toolbars and Menubars. They are under the Add-In tab :)
