Adding fields into a new field drives me mad.

So I have a table containing 2 fields containing the first name and last name of a customer. I do need to add these names in the same table into a new field called Name. Can someone help me out?

what you need is too things

1 after update on surname property

and an query to update all the past names

combinedname or fullname (whatever the new field is called )
= [firstname] & " " & [Surname]

should do it


as to the qry same thing newfield = then update

ok - in your properties field ont he form you will see after update ... click here and you end up in a code window

then type in
newfield = field1 & " " & field2
close

Why do this at all? You can concatenate the first and lst names any time you want to in a query or form. There's no need to stroe this in a field, it's a waste of space and bad design.

but sometimes there are reasons to do the unusal - but I agree if you have title fname surname caputered then you don't need to join them together until you mail out etc...
