Is possible for an adware to really slow down a computer?

quite possibly - not so much slow down the computer as slow down the applications that are running - I avoid them like the plague

My wife's computer was running slow when I went to the rehab today and I ran a virus scan and found 1 adware. When I removed it, it was back up to speed. Too bad some people don't care about making an honest living.
