The terms 'text' and 'ASCII' usually refer to pretty much the same sort of file, so importing them should be no different.
What is important is the contents of the file, 'Comma delimited' (sometimes 'comma separated') text files are usually the easiest to import as access does not have to guess where the fields begin and end.
Although the text files may have extensions '.txt', '.asc' or '.csv', if you look at them in notepad, they are all pretty much the same.
