auto increment

hi, i have an urgent problem.

A form that records sales needs to auto increment every time it is opened to a unique value.

Currently the query works but the form craps it self and doesnt assigna new value.

does any one have any back end vb or front end advice

Have you thought about simply using an autonumber?
