Auto number in forms

In a report you can "serialize" the data by putting "=1" in the control source and set the Running Sum property to "Over Group" or "Over All", depending how you want to sequence the data shown in example below. Can you do the same for forms? I do not see the Running Sum property for a text box in form design view.

2 Mary
3 Luther
4 Bobby
5 Funzy

no - because a report is necessarily sequential - but a form intrinsically is not sequentially - it just presents a set of data in a certain sorted order - which is not the same thing at all
