I have a table with a unique ID (auto number) field. The autonumber is not incrementing correctly. The table has over 550 records, but when I try to enter a new record the autonumber starts in the mid 90's (should be greater than 550). So I get an error of a duplicate Unique ID field value. Then when I try again, the autonumber will increment by 1 to another number in the mid 90's and again I get the same error when I try to close the table.

So I enter record number 552 (Auto ID should be at least 552) I type in the information, click off the record so that the Auto ID sets itself. The Auto ID will be = 94 and then when I close the table I get the error, becasue Auto ID 94 already exists and it will create a duplicate. So I do not save the record, go back in do the same, and the Auto ID = 95 (correctly increments but to the wrong number).

Has anyone seen this? If so let me know.

Thank you,

T.J.

Is your database set to compact on exit? Sometimes this really helps out with issues concerning the autonumber field. See if that helps.
If not would it be possible to delete the field from the tbl, save the tbl, then add in a new auto number field?
Copy the MDB then try this on the copy only.
