Auto number not displaying number

I have a form with an Auto number field. When the form is opened in new record mode the auto number field displays the following: (Auto Number) instead of the actual number that it has generated. I want the number to be displayed

A number will be displayed in the AutoNumber field as soon as data in entered in any field in the current record.

No it's not changing. It just displays: Auto Number

Are you by any chance using ADP or linking to SQL server? If so, I think the autonumber isn't populated until the record saves.

You're doing something else, maybe entering data in an unbound field.

I am using linked sql 2005 tables in access. I have the same problem with Auto number.when i go for new record Auto number is not displaying the number.
