I have an application with BE on server, FE on individual computers. Typical simultaneous access for my application is 5 - 15 users. Altogether the network has 11 servers and over 500 users (mostly students who do NOT use my application thank you very much!) Two or more of my users are unlikely to be adding a new record at exactly the same time, but they are likely to be working on adjacent records at the same time.
I have default record locks set to "Edited Record Only". I now want to set the other options for the network. I know how to set (Using Tools, Options, Advanced) these options but I have no idea about what values would be optimal or what factors I should consider. Right now, these settings are as follows (presumably defaults)
OLE/DDE Timeout 30 sec
Refresh rate 2 sec
ODBC refresh 1500
Refresh interval 60
Update 250.
Does anyone know what these settings do relative to the performance of the application? Does this have anything to do with "Optimistic" settings?
