Back ends...

Have a bit of a prob. Have built a database using MS access 97 have a front end and back end. But in the front end there are tables which are linked to a back end which is a separate database for example called BE which only contains the tables. Have tried using the security function but it became to hard and gave up. So now I've stuck a password on the front end and used the start up options. The prob is that the BE anyone can access it and change the data in the table. Now I know I can hide the table but thats not a good idea So I've though of Three options. 1 change the start up option and hide the tables. 2 Move the BE to a new location on the server ie my private folder. 3 Add a password.

Now with these 3 options would there be a prob has the front end access the BE in forms and will they be asked for the password all the time...

Please help

I believe that you can password protect the backend with a database password. Then break your links from the FE & BE and relink the tables. You will be asked for the password and the front end will store the password [not in a way that the user can find it] and not ask for it again unless you have to relink the FE to the BE.

Back End

Thanks for your advice.

What I've done is at start up hidden the window and also used a lock in order to stop the user using the shift key

hi ghudson,

I agreed with you suggestion but what happend if you not around means let say you in HQ Office then you make changes in HQ after that you email the new changes to subsidiary company. of cause if their want to make a link to back end will ask the password that you created, did get me?

unfortunetely, you soppose give them the password to create a link. did you have any idea to create one db that will make a link to the backend db which the password inside the form and call link table.

:)
best regards
