Being chased by police in USA.

Happens from time to time here (Kansas City--Missouri/Kansas) and they are allowed to pursue through all jurisdictions.

Similiarly to this situation, police here in the states are suppose to give up the chase if doing so will endanger more lives than allowing the person to go will. So if you are getting pulled over for a busted head light and sped up to 100 mph on a busy road weaving in and out of traffic they should stop chasing.

Then again, cops can't always be trusted to do what they should or even the right thing.

There was a time when the police could not go out of their jurisdiction, but there have been agreements in place for a number of years. I sure these agreements were set up because the criminals were taking advantage of the situation.

Thank you, so it is true (or was), that'll be why it was in the film Bonnie and Clyde. Maybe Libre should pay more attention and not dismiss everything as lies.

Is it also true that aliens always land in small towns in Kansas? Or when Americans eat in a restaurant, they never wait for the bill, they just throw a bundle of money on the table and walk out? How do you know how much to pay?

The landing site for aliens (UFO type) in the US is officially Elmwood, WI. They have annual UFO days. I don't think aliens are allowed to land anywhere else.

As to throwing money on the table at restaurants, I have only seen this in British movies. It doesn't happen here in the states. We all use debit and credit cards. No one uses cash anymore.

What about Roswell?

I sometimes use cash.

Also, if I know how much the bill will be by estimation, then sometimes I won't wait for a bill. What's the point? Even if I'm using my card, I'll just hand it to them to run. It saves time. This way I don't have to wait for the bill to come, nor wait for her to finally come back around to run my card.

What about Roswell?
I don't think they have a designated landing zone there (which they do have in Elmwood). I thought Roswell was where they kept the aliens once captured. Maybe that was before Elmwood built the landing zone. :)

I presume it's up to the FAA to certify these sites, or is it left up to the MIB

They don't exist... why don't you look right here for me...? ;)

I presume it's the FAA your referring to, as I've seen all the MIB films so I know for sure they are real :p Because Hollywood would never lie to me :D

Lots of things in films are bogus. Just like the internet.

How about these?

If you drive to town, there is always a parking space immediately outside the building you need.

American car tyres always squeal on corners, even on dirt tracks.

You can buy a coffee and as many top-ups as you like are free.

Having a meal, Americans never use a knife, only a fork.

Diner cafe's are ex railway carriages.

In petrol stations a little bell rings when you drive in and several men rush out and check tyres, clean screen etc.

American men wear big hats like J.R .Ewing in Dallas.

army generals are usually black, as are police chiefs.

Supermarket shopping is carried in brown paper bags with a French stick poking out the top.

A refrigerator is the size of a small bedroom.

Houses are always wooden and have an American flag flying in the garden.

Didn't we already have a thread on these?

Pretty unlikely. People are lazy.

American car tyres always squeal on corners, even on dirt tracks.

Yep. It's actually independent of the road type. We have cars with built in squealers.

You can buy a coffee and as many top-ups as you like are free.

This is actually true for a lot of chains with bad coffee. Not true for the nice places or over-priced burnt coffee like Starbucks.

It depends on the meal. Sometimes I'll just eat my meat and potatoes with a knife only.

Diner cafe's are ex railway carriages.

Never seen one.

Not anymore. Most, if not all, stations are self-service. Two states where it is not yet legal are Oregon and New Jersey. In those states, you are likely to run into this scenario.

American men wear big hats like J.R .Ewing in Dallas.

Who??? I don't typically wear a hat.

Supermarket shopping is carried in brown paper bags with a French stick poking out the top.

Most use plastic, unless paper is requested. Something about saving the environment? I don't know.

A refrigerator is the size of a small bedroom.

I wish. I would likely be able to keep a lot more alcohol in it. :D

Houses are always wooden and have an American flag flying in the garden.

What show did you get this from? I want to see it.

This is actually true in Starbucks also, if you have a gold card.

Yes I did a thread on this a few years ago, but as we were on the subject, I would repeat for the benefit of newer members.

Any American sitcom has the houses made of wood, also in the background of many you can see the flags flying on masts in the front gardens. Also, whenever the wind blows we see total devastation on the news where the wooden houses fall over.

But then again, it's Starbucks: Burnt overpriced coffee. No thanks. Fresh roasted coffee tastes so much better without that bitter burnt taste and the need to over-sweeten it just to get rid of it.

Actually, I think it tastes quite nice. Maybe we get a superior product in England.

This is incredible. We agree on something. I like it, too. No sweetner for me. It took awhile to become accustomed to the bold roasting. Don't like the newer Blonde milder coffees that they offer however.

Doubtful. Have you ever had coffee that is actually fresh roasted? I've had Starbucks in Japan and in many states in the US when I don't have other options. Nothing compares to coffee that is roasted in house. :)

My uncle runs a vegan coffee shop in Wisconsin. They import beans from all over the world, roast them in shop, and brew within a day. They never use beans that were roasted too long before. They don't have the burnt look or smell that Starbucks beans do.
