Hello,
Since today i can't enter in vba code in my db (modules & event procedures), each time i call vba to edit code Access return to windows desktop without message, i tried creating an empty data base ... same problem i uninstalled Office 2000 then re-installed and always the same problem.
Thanks in advance for help if someone encountered this problem.

(ACCESS2000, no new program installed or configuration changes on my computer since yesterday when all was working)

Hello,
I have the same problem in Excel if i call vba editor with <ALT>F11 in tools/macros menu.... but works in word!
Any idea ?
Uninstall / reinstall Office doesn't solves the problem, the first time i have installed OFFICE2000 the installer asked to reboot and continues the install but in the uninstall/re-install procedure it doesn't ask to reboot, i think uninstall doesn't remove all office references so is there a way to remove all after uninstall to make a 'True' 1 st instalation.
Don't know how to recover the vba.
Thanks.

No Help from Microsoft site no help here and only Arsenic pills and Kleenex in MSO tool box......bad...

I think you are correct in your assuption the when you uninstall, somethings are left behind. Why don't you backup your data, reformat your hard disk and start again. I do this reasonably frequently and it fixes all sorts of problems.

Hi Neileg,
You are right, if i format and re-install Windows it will good (i think), but i would like to try other things before this ultime solution and overall i would like to know what causes this problem i don't want to re-install windows each time i will have this problem because i have other software on my PC wich need to be activated on-line so if i activate them 8 or 10 times i will have some problems with these software editors.
I tried to clean the register file without success, maybe some dll are corrupted some where.. i continue my investigations.... but i think i will must re-install.
Searching solutions to my problem in this forum i am suprised to read all these threads with : my DB crashes, compacting DB crashes etc... and nobody know why.
Microsoft : Please give us real tools, why all tools to repair Access DB are non-Microsoft products?
Thanks for your interest Neileg.

Recover code and objects from crashed .mdb

I have experienced several bad lockups of my .mdb files during development. I've found that in many cases I can retrieve code or objects by opening a new, empty db file in Access, and then import from the crashed .mdb file all objects and modules. This may work if the problem is somewhere in the .mdb file. Otherwise - if the problem is with the MS Access installation (i.e. references, register file mysteries or the like), other means have to be called upon.

Thanks Olstynor, i have already tried this. I have the same problem if i create a new empty database and call vba to create a module. I will clean windows registry and then attempt to re-install Office, if that doesn't work i will re-install Windows. For the moment i have transfered my DB on another computer where it works fine.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Regards.

I had problems similar to this several years ago with Access 97. The cure was to remove MS Office, and then, from the Microsoft site, download a program that also cleaned out MS office items that did not get removed, and then reinstall MS office.

Have you checked to see if MS Office still needs a program to "completely remove your version fo MS Office?

Hi Greaseman,
I don't think there is a specific program, i used the add/remove program from windows menu, i tried repair option too. I will see on Microsoft site if there is something to clean online Office2000.
Thanks again.

I'll suggest a third-party program that might help, but others in the same category might also do the job.

If you buy a security package called Defender PRO 15-in-1, one of the tools you get is a registry cleaner. What it does is run through your registry to find all "dangling" entries. Things that point to deleted files. Things that appear to be inconsistent. It also can find duplicated entries. When it finishes its scan, it gives you the chance to review its findings and "un-check" some of the boxes. When you are done, you click the 'Next' button and it removes the checked entries. It also makes a backup copy of what it removes just in case you did yourself in.

I'm thinking that if your problem is dangling entries, this sort of product is just what you need for cleanup. (Oh, it works great as an anti-virus package, has a nice firewall with a "learning" mode, and has a couple of other cleaners for adware and spyware.) Normally I don't recommend anything outside of the Access arena but in this case I think my idea is warranted.

I'm sure other registry cleaner products do similar things. I have personal experience, generally a GOOD experience, with Defender PRO. Costs about $40 - $50 USA, often available in WalMart or Target stores, slightly more expensive in other big chains like CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City. Don't know what you have available there, but I'm sure you can find it somewhere. It is a relatively good, highly reputable product.

Doc and Uncle many thanks for these informations.
I will try a registry cleaner, it's not easy to do this manualy and i'm afraid to delete some keys wich are used.
Uncle i think this link will help me a lot, remove the install is excatly what i want to make 'REAL' new Office installation.
Thanks again.

Found this:

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised.

I think this the latest version... if I find something else I will post it.

Thanks for the link and advertissement WindSailor,
I will attempt cleanup and re-install this week-end.
Great thanks to all.
