bitten off more that i can chew!

Help me please! I’m not normally one for begging on forums! But this is a desperate time for me..

I don’t know a great deal about access! And i stupidly agreed to making a simple database for my boss!

He wants a database to track how well sales staff are doing against target.

i.e he enters sales agent name.. the product they sold.. and how much it is worth.. the week it was sold in

Then at the end of the month he can select their name and the week, then see what products they have sold and a total amount for each product area sold!

i just have no idea how to do it!

help me please!

Your request is not that formidable, but the nature of this forum precludes having us do it for you. For a short-fuse item, the only things I can suggest are to search the posted example databases in this forum and the samples given with Access to see if anything there makes sense. This forum can help when you are dealing with narrowly targeted questions. It is not suited towards developing whole projects.

Maybe this MS template can be a place to start. Then modify it to your specifications.

mrbean,
Have you looked at the "Northwind" database that is included in MSAccess? A good place to start. Also check out the "database creator", select "New" when you start up Access.
We will be glad to help you with suggestions, but no one wants to do your work for you...

Just look at the basis first You will need Tables

Sales Area with Description
Sales Agent with Agent's Name and Area Code
Products with Description and Value
Weeks Week Month Year and Date Range

Sales Details with Sales Agent Code, Area Code, Week Code, Product Code, QTY and Value.

Area Code derived from Sales Agent in case Agent moves territories
Value derived from Products in case Product Sell Value changes.
Year might also br important later to the compare Year or Year.

This is presently probably done on a spreadsheet, if you can extract this from your boss this would be a good starting point. Create your tables and enter in data even manually produce some reports and before you know it you will be on your way.

Good luck
