All,
I'm searching like a mad person and will continue BUT!!!
Does anyone know anything about the options to 'Boost SQL Server priority on windows' and 'Use Windows NT Fibers'? (located in the server properties/processor tab)
I've a relatively small database size wise, at just less than a Gig. I've set the DB to simple mode to try and speed it up a bit so there's no writing to the transaction log. However because of all the processing - carried out by a third party VB prog' it's incredibly slow.
The VB prog is in the process of being re-written and this will solve all our problems but it's looking like it'll take longer than expected. The system is used to payroll thousands of people and over the past 2-3 weeks the whole process seems to have slowed down exponentially. Thus my idea of a quick fix is to a) delete a ton of records and shrink the database A LOT and b) boost it's priority. I'm hesitant to do this as I've not yet found a document telling me exactly what it will do!
(If there's a hidden 'Warp speed' check box I'd love to know it's location as well... Just for the record the server is well 'over specced'.)
Any comments much appreciated! Thank you.
