Sometimes my brain gets stuck on one concept and I can't break free to find the solution.
I know I'm doing something wrong with my tables. Can someone turn the light on for me? (I've searched for some ideas too, but didn't see anything that helped).
I have a table with Policy information which includes a Policy_Key (unique) and a Policy_Number (not unique but this is a purchased db so I as much as I disagree with this, there's not much I can do about it)
I then have a table with Invoice information. Along with that, is the Policy_Number and I have the two tables linked one to many Policy.Policy_Key to Invoice.Policy_Number.
My third table is where I have my nervous system issues. Normally, if this was my database, this table wouldn't exist and would be apart of the 2nd table. BUT once again, because this is a purchased DB, the third table is my very own table where I add information that can't be found in the Main DB. (Did I lose you yet?). So my first table has this live information in it, and my 3rd table is empty.
I think I messed up by giving my third table a field Policy_Number. I linked Invoice.Policy_Number one to one Third.Policy_Number. But I feel my Policy Number is now duplicate data and defies all laws of normalization (bad bad Charmed). But how else can I have that new data entered and related to the policy number from my first 2 tables?
Someone earlier (thank you for all your help) suggested I post my database so you can see what I'm doing. So here it is. If you follow my forms, you'll see that "Enter New Information" button brings me to my 3rd table blank form for me to enter. But I'll have to "re-enter" the policy number.
Thanks for your help.
