Some help/pointers needed if you would all be so kind (I'm sure you will be...)

I want to populate a field on a form (based on a table) with a link to a file. I want to choose the file with some form a 'browse' facility (similar to the the standard Windows stuff).

I'm using Access 97...is this possible?

Regards
Lawrence

Search the forum for the topic "Common Dialog"

One of the common dialogs is the standard windows file-open dialog box that lets you browse.

In order to activate this method, you MUST involve yourself in VBA code underneath the form that holds your "Browse" button.

Issues that impinge on this problem (all of which have been mentioned in this forum and can be found using a SEARCH)

References - because the COMDLG32.OCX file has to be referenced.

Registering ActiveX - because an OCX file is an Active X control file.

Browsing - will lead you to some articles that deal with this.

Also to be noted: If you have trouble with registering the OCX file, search the forum for "Hatten" - which is the font file that usually gets you into trouble when registering COMDLG32.OCX, though Gates alone knows why. Or you can find Pat Hartman's post that shows how to activate the COMDLG32.DLL file rather then the ActiveX version in the .OCX file.

check out this thread for the sample db sampledbgetfile.zip

I have been using the same code as in that sample for years although I do not know where I found it. What I like about it is you do not have to worry about using (registering) the ActiveX stuff. This db uses the comdlg32.dll that the The_Doc_Man mentioned above.

Wow how awsome it that?

I am searching today for a browse resolution too. Someone posted just two days ago for same thing. I got my answer without having to post.

Thanks so much
