The channel name is missing in your screenshot. In my case, I see

It's never appeared in either of my M365 installations that I can recall. Is there a way to configure it so it does appear?

Or is that an artifact of being on beta channel?

I remember having this conversation some time ago
The channel should be displayed whichever one you are on. No idea why it doesn't appear for you.
Probably a registry setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration but no idea which.

Oh, I know why. I've always been "special".

Seriously, it doesn't bother me that much not to have the display available. I know which channel I'm on anyway.

I've had a couple of end users experience this and they are definitely not on any sort of preview channel.

@Minty
Please can you find out the update channel, version and build info of the affected users and report back

I'm affected

Sorry Colin, I'm on holiday from tonight so won't get the chance to enquire with the client before I'm incommunicado.
if by some miracle I do, I'll report back.

@Thales750
Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know

That Office build should not have been released to the current channel. It is not listed on the 365 release history webpages: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date

Unfortunately, that particular build is going to require you to take some action in order to fix the issue.

Although the next Current Channel update to version 2506 will be released soon (possibly today), it is likely that it won't automatically update from the version you have. You can wait and find out but I expect you will need to do one of the following solutions:

Method 1
The easiest solution is to perform a rollback to Current Channel version 2505 build 18827.20176 which is not affected by this bug

To do so, open a command prompt using Run As Administrator then paste the following into the prompt window:
Code:
cd %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\

followed by
Code:
OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.18827.20176

You will then see the usual update message boxes informing you about the progress:
  • Downloading Microsoft 365 and Office updates.
  • Applying updates...
  • Updates were installed.
For more details, see Peter Doering excellent article: https://www.accessforever.org/post/roll-back-to-previous-versions-of-office

Method 2
Alternatively, you could change to a slower channel such as Monthly Enterprise Channel which isn't affected by the bug.
See Peter Doering's companion article: https://www.accessforever.org/post/demystifying-microsoft-365-update-channels

Method 3
Yet another option is to TEMPORARILY change to a faster insider channel: Current Channel (Preview) where the bug was fixed in version 2506 18925.20192. However, insider channels should not (as stated previously in this thread) be used for any production database i.e. with end users

@Minty
Perhaps, before you leave you can send a link to post #28 to your affected clients so they can perform the same action if they are on that specific build.
Have a good holiday

The Access team have today confirmed that the next update to the Current Channel (v2506 build 18925.20136) will contain a fix for the disappearing captions bug. It should be released sometime this week - possibly tomorrow (Wed 2 July)
