I have a subform and everytime I charge a client, I enter the amount in the subform
How can I calculate the total charges for each client

Try this...enter a Textbox on the main form and use the following as the Control Source...=DSum("[ClientChargedAmt]","name of subform","[client # on main form]=" & [client # on subform]) substituting the appropriate field names from your forms. HTH JT

I did as you suggested and got an #error

the field I want to calculate is [charge]
the name of the client is in [client data]

my form is named sheet 1
and the sub form is named sheet 1 subform 1

can you help

My guess is that you got an #error showing because the control name (text box) is named the same as your field. Change the name of the text box to something other than the name of the field and you may get results.
