I am trying to make sense of the different type of Access licences. I want to be able to distribute the access database with my application. Can anyone tell me how I can do this? My VB application needs to store & access data from a database and I was wondering if I can use Access and distribute the database - is it legal and if yes, how can I do it? What sort of license do I need. Thank you.

Hi tiffster,

Here is info on licenses. Essentially there a few different types of licences;

1. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, This type of license is only available when purchasing new machines)
2. Software assurance with product licences (allows for even monthly payments of licenses, unless individual product licenses are purchased )
3. Open Volume licences (numerous types of license numbers, for small to large business)

Hope it helps?

More info on Volume License at;

http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/default.mspx

In addition the link "Volume Licensing Recommendation Tool" can be seen which will help select the type of license required.

Microsoft glossary of licensing terms;

I suppose it depends on who you distribute to but essentially they need a license of one type to cover the license.

Good Luck.
