Can't Delete Button From MS Word Toolbar

I can't delete a button that I setup previously. The steps that I follow are:

1. 'Tools'
2. 'Customize'
3. Drag the button off the 'Toolbar'
4. Close 'Customize'

When following the above steps, the button is no longer displayed. So I exit MS Word, but when I open up MS Word again, the button re-appears.

When you exit MSWord, are you asked to save changes to the Normal.dot or Universal Template (or similar)?
