First of all, I'm very new, just started learning access.

I've just created a form and I'm trying to move and size the fields but they seem to be grouped together and whatever I do to one happens to all of them. I select one field and just that field has the orange outline but when I move it they all move.

I must be doing something basic wrong but I can't figure out what... please help!

It seems I can alter the height of a single field in layout view but not design view.

I hate that "feature". The first thing I do if I use the wizard to create a form or report is remove the layout. I can't even imagine who it may help.

wow - agreed! I don't think I've ever come across that before. Presumably to protect you from being stupid and careless - in which case you shouldn't be trying to program access!

If you have a layout then it makes it easy to add a new field by dragging it from the field list or to remove one and automatically rearrange the remaining controls.

For a tabular layout, it makes it easy - when dragging a new field from the field list - to put the textbox below and the label with caption above the detail border and move all the controls to the right - a painful process to do by hand. Don't knock this feature without having been through all its functions :D

Stop trying to make an old dog learn a new trick!! :p
