checkbox not working

I have a checkbox control in a subform. It refuses to activate. I put a simple procedure in the click event

private sub CheckBox_Click()
msgbox "clicked"
end sub

and it won't run. The same procedure in any other event will work OK, like dblClick or Enter.

I think it must be some sort of setting on the form or parent form, because a new checkbox created from scratch behaves the same way. I've twiddled with all the properties I can see that would make a difference, but I can't find the solution.

Any advice?

Access sometimes "looses" or "can't see" event subs if you type the header and footer manually or rename the control.

Delete the existing sub and recreate it by clicking on the elipsis in the event property box.

He/she has been able to do it for double click and he replicated the checkbox and tried it again for click. I gave him/her the benefit of the doubt on that. However if allow edits is set to No on the form the checkbox is on then you are unable to click but able to double click.

sorry for the confusion about the name of the control. the sub was named correctly.

And it was the allow edits property also, thanks dt10pqt. I could have sworn i checked that, but between looking at the properties on main forms and sub forms in different windows i must have just overlooked one.
