I'm guessing that it is a baseball team. We don't do baseball much, we call it 'rounders' played by our schoolgirls.

That's not the first time that's been said.
Around 20 years ago there was a regular poster called Rich. He was another 'me' in his cutting comments, especially to Americans. We rather took it as a compliment.
