Close a Shelled application

Good day!

I couldn t find what is the syntax to close an application shelled from within Access. I am presently shelling regserv32.exe to register custom libraries on startup of my front-end. I noticed that the shelled sessions of regserv32.exe remain in memory and 'accumulate' with successive restartings of the DB, leading eventually to an 'Out of Memory' message.

So, how do you close a shelled application and free up memory?

Thanks in advance.

Thali

Thanks

I don't think this is the best way to do it, but it should work in most cases. You can use the AppActivate statement to switch the focus to the application you previously launched with the Shell statement, and then use the SendKeys statement to send that application an Alt-F4 keystroke, which is the standard Windows shortcut key to shut down the current application. If the shelled application has overridden that shortcut, or has an unsaved document, or otherwise requires other keystrokes to close it, you'll have to deal with those issues as well. AppActivate and SendKeys are documented in the Access help system.
