Combo Box auto-fill too soon!

The combo boxes on my form intermittently start auto-filling to soon. For example, I have the following in the list for the row source:
Alan
Alexis
Alice

But as soon as I type "AL", it fills in with "Alan". And the only way I can get to "Alice" is to scroll down the drop down list and choose it. Access seems to consistently make the choice from the list based on only the first two letters that I type.


Before I started writing this , I had this problem. I had tried repair/compact, closing and re-opening the form, the database etc. No change. But now, just before I submit this, I go back to check and now it's working properly.

So if you type the third letter (i) it doesn't go to Alice? That is what it should do, but if you don't want it to do that at all then set AutoExpand to NO.

No, it doesn't go to Alice. It fills in "Alan". I have had this happen intermittently. I have changed nothing in the design. It's maddening!

When I do it, it fills in Alan but then as I keep typing it fills in the others based on what I am typing. Not sure why it wouldn't act the same for you. What version of Access and Service Pack are you on?

I am using Access 2003, SP3. I stress that this is intermittent behavior. Had this problem this morning. Now it's gone.
