Combo Box on a Data-Entry Form

Hey guys, I'm trying to create a Data Entry only form based on a small table called tblProject. It consist of the fields Project_ID, Artist_ID, Project_Name, and Project_Notes.

I used the wizard to get me started and i know how to change the form to data entry only, but the problem is the vague data in the Artist_ID control. It shows up as a number, because it is an FK to another table (tblArtist) where more details on the artist are held. (including Band_Name)

I want to be able to make it a combobox with a list of the Band_Names from the tblArtist table. This would make creating "a new project" much easier.

I've taken a couple shots in the dark and googled a couple things but can't find the answer. Thanks!!

It sounds like you have used Lookup Fields: http://access.mvps.org/access/lookupfields.htm
Use the Combo Box wizard to add the cbo you need to your form. You will find the wizard can do just what you want.

I haven't used any lookup fields, I dont even know how to set that up. I used the wizard and it did add a combo box with a list of Band_Names but it's not working as I had hoped.

now when i try to add a new record, it says "You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table 'tblArtist'."

I dont want this form to affect tblArtist at all, only tblProject.

Basically i just want the Artist_ID to be displayed as Band_Name but still function as Artist_ID. is that even possible?

nevermind, i figured it out.

it's funny how you can bang your head against a wall for hours trying to figure something out, then take a short walk come back and figure it out within 5 minutes....
