Compact dbase after close

Does an MDE file require compacting? If so, how would you compact an MDE file when a user closes it?

I see you are an addict to this Forum yet.
MDE is the ultimate compilation state that can be achieved for an Access database. It cannot even be reverted (no access to your source code anymore).

yes i'm back feeling better

i only brought the question up after seeing
my reg .mdb file ballooning up after
several runs & as the front end of it will
be an MDE file i wanted to know if an MDE
will require compacting the way a regular
.mdb file does

i guess it doesn't....

Simply changing to an MDE file doesn't prevent database bloat or the need to compact and there are other good reasons why regular compacting should be carried out.

Why not simply go to Options on the Tools menu and select Compact on Close from the General tab. This way, anytime any user exits the database, it gets compacted. This is great when you have multiple front ends - you don't have to keep track of their compacted states because you know they'll always be compacted when used regardless of where they reside.
