Recently, when I compact/repair my Access 2000/2003 databases, I end up with a generic db1.mdb file in the same folder as the original database. This db1 is smaller than the source file, suggesting it is the compacted file. After compacting, this db1 remains instead of automatically going away (as it used to).
The next time I compact/repair, I get a db2, etc.
Can somebody tell me which one is the compacted file?
and why this db1 file still hangs around?
and how to fix the situation so the compacted file gets the same name as the original file?
I've been compacting my databases regularly, and this db1 file always "used to" go away after the process.
My computer recently applied SP3I'm running Access 2003 SP3 (from SP2),
