I have numerous dbf files that I need to do the following
-compare this year's file with last year's file
-identify ANY field that has different data so it can be reviewed. I am not just looking to change the current year to last year's as our year began in July so some changes may be valid.
Couple things:
-yes, there is a unique identifier for each record in both the can be connected
-there are numerous fields that will need to be compared
-there may be some records in the old and not in the new - and that is OK. I am not looking for missing records due to the nature of our software.
I would need to compare just the ones that have the same identifier and then compare all of the fields.
-I am not looking for just null fields, but any differences, including nulls.
I was thinking of pulling into access and doing this but can't find a way to do a good compare. I did find a software on the net called "excel compare" but I had to do so much prep to the files i.e. bring them into access and run find unmatched in both directions to delete out records and sort so that I had two lists with the same records in the exact same order....that it might not be the way to go.
If anyone has had a similar need and found a solution (not looking for exact code if you have coded - just a point in the right direction) or even used a software purchased for this purpose - let me know!!! I'm under the gun on this and need to find a solution soon!
