Ive come here to find out how to start making a date base from scratch,

I have had to change my life dramaticly over the last two years taking up new hobbies and interests, to try and keep my mind active and out of depression. My main interest is mine making and I want to create a megga database so that I can monitor recipies and ingrediants, against the wine cellar stocks.

It will need to be quite a comprehencive database with two or 3 elements working indevidually but also inconguntion with each other.

Sections I need to create inclue

Wine Celler, stock control and drink ability. Some wines are not drinkable or 12 months but will taste well improved after 3 years storage.

Recipie collection, I want to keep a data base of collectied recipies and all to do thith them but want recipies to link to Wine cellor stock control.

Can anyone please help me, I know it is a lot to ask but really dont know where to start.:confused::confused:

Hi Tintin

I would advise you to start by looking for a very basic book about Access. This should give you an idea of how things work and also let you know what to ask here. Like a lot of forums this one is at its best when answering specific questions.

Good luck

I agree with Rabbie. Read and learn.

Do a search in here for some advice from The_Doc_Man who has some very good ideas on database design that involve pencil and paper.

Tin Tin -
start with Doc mans outline - when you get to a specific area thats causing you a problem, let us know

show how you get to where you are and the guys(and girls) will show you where to go

OP,

I consider myself Intermediate/Good at Access (compared to experts here).

I advise you start with very simple books from the ground up. For entry-level Access they are dirt cheap (<£10). Piling in and fudging things together is no way to learn anything - let alone something that requires logic and strong foundations.

Try reading reviews etc. on Amazon for an idea of what literature you need to purchase.

This link should give you a good idea on what to do.

Thank you all very much, Your help has been very usefull...:p

Happy to have been able to help. The forum is always here if you have any more questions. Good luck!

i started a recipe d/base - I'll see if i can find it somewhere -

Rabbie, If I wanted to share my data base with you all, and looking for new Ideas on improving it, is there an area her I can do that. Or is E-mail the only way. I cant be the only person on this site which does a little home brewing. :p. Hay maybe I can put it on the net as a working site to share recipies, would I be able to do that:confused:.

simply zip the mdb file and attach to your message, look for the paperclip above & state your problem & some punk will prob come along and solve it for you. Alternatively if its a finished db you can share it in the Sample Databases area of this forum.
