I have a form containing records of volunteers including some that are currently not active. For each volunteer there is a record which contains "Letter", "Email", "Tel", "Mobile or "Not Active"

I would like to change the colour of the font, for the whole record if possible, for those that contain "Not Active" - is this possible?

Yes; look at Format/Conditional Formatting.

Assuming you're running Access 2000 or later. We'll call the control holding the contact methods (I assume that's what they mean) Contact. In Design View, select each control that you want to format.

You can do all of them at once by holding down <Shift> and Left clicking on each of them in turn.
On the menu goto Format - Conditional Format
Under Condition1 use the down arrow to select Expression Is
In the next box type in [contact] = "not active"
Now select the formatting you want when this condition is true.
You're done.

You didn't say what type of form you are using. Just a warning, in Single View and Continuous View the formatting is instantaneous, but in Datasheet View there's always a very slight hesitation when the form first loads. Don't know why this happens.

Good Luck!

Many thanks for the help you have given me. It so easy once you know how.

I am amazed by two things - how little I know and how easy it is to get expert help on the better forums.

I have got the conditional formatting to do a good part of what I want it to do - hopefully I can get it fully working with a little more help.

I have a form with details of volunteers including name, address, tel, email, status etc.

I have set conditional formatting to turn the background of the "Status" field red when the value of that field is "Not Active".

Can I set up conditional formatting to turn the "Name" field red when the "Status" field = "Not Active", i.e I want to use the value of one field to format the output of another field.

Thanks

The same technique Linq detailed will work on the other fields.

Hi pbaldy.

You are quite correct. In my hast I only saw the "not Active" part of the condition. Now i have looked a little more closely I can see the full condition [contact] = "not active".

Thanks to both of you for your help and patience.
