I had to delete a database so I exported selected records using export as a text file thinking I would get some sort of delimited text file that I could later use. Instead I got some sort of fixed length file with .............. between records and | between fields.

I'd like to convert this data to a tab delimited file.

How would I do this?

Thanks

import it back into a table, then properly export it to a delimited file

I'm running Access 2000 and do not see the Advanced tab that you discussed. Is there something I have to do to be able to see the Advanced tab?

Pat,

I hate to sound dense but..... I went to File / Export, then clicked Save As, but never saw an advanced tab. Did I go to the right place? Also, how do I check to see if I have the Import / Export wizard installed or not?

Thanks so much in advance.

I am finished at my job for the day and will send you a screen shot tomorrow of what I am seeing when I go to export a text file.

Looking forward to contacting you tomorrow! Thanks!

Goto file... save as/export... at the bottom of the window, where it says Files of type change that to *.txt files

Pat,

Good morning....I've enclosed a screen shot of what I see when I go to export a .txt - type file. Is this where I am supposed to be, and is this what I should be seeing? I definitely do not see any "advanced" tab or button anywhere.

Trason,

That's what I've been doing, but haven't been able to change my delimiters. I need to somehow set up an export template with tabs as my delimiters but haven't been able to do so.

Pat,

I didn't have a "Save All" on my screen, but I did a double-click and got to the parameter screen anyway where I was able to specify no quotes, tab-type spacing and so forth.

I wonder if Microsoft will ever make a product that would perhaps besides "user friendly" also be "people friendly??????" I can dream, can't I?

Thank you so much for you assistance. 18,000 - plus responses ??? When do you sleep?

:)
