Hello everyone,

I would like to convert a database, which was made for me, in order to enable it to be used on my current system.

I get the error message below when trying to open the database in Microsoft Access 2003.

The database was made using Microsoft Access 2.0.

Will I need Microsoft Access 2.0 to update/delete the database all the time?

Or can I convert this to be used with Microsoft Access 2003?

I have tried opening the file exclusively and I get the same error.

I have selected Show Help and it advises me to import all the objects from the database into a new database. This can`t be achieved as I can`t open the file to retrieve the contents.

Thank you very much for your help and all responses are appreciated,
Sam

To be honest, I doubt Access 2003 even knows that Access 2.0 (Access 95) even existed). I know that Access 2.0 could be upgraded from Access 97 but I'm not sure that versions of Access from 2000 onwards have supported such an upsizing.

In theory, could it be converted to the nearest instance and then again until it is finally accessible in Microsoft Access 2003?

It should be able to convert to 97 and from there to whatever. I've not got 2003 so I can't say if that can convert 97 files; 2002 certainly can.

I have 2003 and I see only 97 so I'd presume it doesn't support 2.0. However I do seem to recall seeing a 2.0 to 2003 converter kit available for download from MSDN....

I was able to do an Access 2.0 to Ac97 conversion using Ac97. It had a wizard for this purpose. But I agree with the others that once you get past Ac97, Access has forgotten about AC2.0

I think the step-wise upgrade is your best bet, assuming you could get a copy of the files you need.

On the other hand, if you have AC2.0 on an old machine, you could try to export the files to comma-delimited text or something like that.

Otherwise, I think you are S.O.L.

If you need a translation of S.O.L.,... don't ask. My version is vulgar.

I now have MS Access 2.0 and I encounter this problem:

Thanks for that. I`ll use it when I can access the database.

For now, I`m having permissions problems. I purchased a system (PC and database) and it worked fine on that until the usernames were misplaced (after being changed as well).

I was told to search for the .mwb file and join it, but this didn`t work. Is there any way that I can access the database without the username and password?

That message normally means that the Access 2.0 db has a custom workgroup [.mdw] file that you need to join so that you can convert or import the db objects into Access 2003.
I found the .mdw file (from the original PC) and joined it to Access 2003, but to no avail.

I also have Access 2.0 if this helps.

Is there any way I can bypass the login/s?

Thank you.

Yeah, I was. Thanks anyway. The problem is, is that I cannot get into the file as I get the problem in post 1.

After I (hopefully) get into the file, another problem will arise; the username/s and password/s were misplaced.

I have the .mdw file from the original machine, if that`s of any significance.

Thanking everyone for their help so far.

Have you keyed in "Access Password" into Google to see what comes back?

Thanks RuralGuy, I`ll try that after I can get into the database.

Currently I have this error upon opening the database:
