HI there!

Anybody still awake who can help me?

Aim: I am trying to automatically update the Version of my Database.

Explanation:

In Version 1 I have A file Graves. For each Grave different people can be entered who are responsible for Care, one for Payment, One for the Tombstone etc. In the “old” System I entered the same Person with a field “Responsible_for” – value as “Plants”, or “Stone” or “Payment”. This meant that the same Person was entered 3 or more times, with a different “Responsible_for”

In the new Version, the Person is only entered once, with tick boxes for the above values.

All fine so far, but now I have to convert the old Data to match the new system (in VB) and I’m a bit at a loss as how to go about it!

I have created a recordset with all the people with the same GraveID. Now if the first one is “Responsible_for” - “stone” and there is another in the recordset, with the same name and Birthdate, and a different “responsible_ for”, say “plant” , he should be deleted and the tickbox “stone” and “plant” of the first record ticked.
I have been looping, if_ing, doing until_ing… until I’m totally confused!

I hope this makes sense to someone out there!
Thanks a lot
Marion

Might help a bit if you give us the structure of your new tables ie. How do you now record for flowers, stone etc?

A couple of queries is the way to go but need to know the table structure.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

All that has changesd in the structure is this

Old Table
ID
Surname
Firstname
Birthdate
Type (here the "Plant" etc.)

Here 2 records (one for plant, one for Stone)

New Table:
ID
Surname
Firstname
Birthdate
Plant (yes/no)
Stone (yes/no)

Here 1 record with plant ="yes", Stone ="yes"

Now the problem is to delete the duplicate records, and have one record left where both boxes are ticked

Thanks a lot
Marion
