Create Log Table

Hi Everyone,

I have had a good search and can only find the complex questions/solutions whereas I think I am looking for something quite simple ( I hope ).

With the help of members of this site - I successfully put together An Access DB that pulls data from our Oracle DB, produces reports and emails them to people.

My colleagues who use what in the end is a very simple solution have over recent months managed to break it and claim not to have done things with it that I know they have like pressing buttons too many times.

The Ask?

What I am looking to do is create a log file that tracks the clicks on the "Command Click" buttons. I believe I need a bit of code at the beginning and a but at the end that would write Button 1 pressed and date stamp and at the end Button 1 finished and time stamp.

I have not done anything like this before so would appreciate the Newbie version on how to achieve this.

Presuming you have a table with 2 fields, the basics would be:

CurrentDb.Execute "INSERT INTO TableName(ButtonName, DateTime) VALUES('Buttonxyz', Now())"

You could tweak that to use ActiveControl and use the same code for every button/control. I don't see any gain to putting start/end, but you could certainly add it.
