I have a table in Access 2003 which has a field "First Name" and a field "Surname". I wish to create a new field in the same table, "Full Name", which combines the other two.
How might I do this?

You would not and should not create another field since doing so would duplicate information already in the table which is a violation of good database practices.

You can easily combine the first name and surname using an expression in a textbox control in a form or report: =[First Name] & " " & [Surname], or you can do it in a query as follows:

SELECT [First Name] & " " & [Surname] as FullName
FROM tablename

I would also recommend getting rid of spaces in your field and table names since that forces you to enclose each name in square brackets [].

Thank you very much for your helpful reply.
