Hi all,
I would like to say, I really like this place. It is always a big help! Now for the problem.

I have to create a surgery schedule that is continuous form. I am having trouble with actually creating the form and having the surgeryschedule table populate with the id numbers of the tables linked to it.

I have attached a zip file with the database in it.

If you open frmMain, you can input any donor information, recipient etc...(you'll see what I am talking about). I want to create a form for the surgeryschedule but just can't seem to get it right.

I have NO idea what I am doing wrong or anything. I have tried to put a combo box for a look up to the surgeons and recipients but it doesn't work or populate the tblsurgeryschedule with surgeonId or recipientId.

I hope I explained it correct, not sure how to really explain it in an e-mail type explanation.:)

can any one help? I am at a loss and I am thinking that if I can figure this out then the invoice part of this should be relatively the same.:D

Thank you in advance!!
Larry

I have a had a quick look and I am not sure what you are after but I think you need to use subforms so that when surgeonID is selected the other fields complete automatically - use the FormWizard and add all the fields you need and it should recognise the grouping for you.

Wizard Attempted

Good morning,
I tried the subform wizard but it didn't work. Here is what I am thinking, the main form has to be the surgeryschedule and the two sub forms would be the surgeons (with a drop down to pick and auto populate the surgeons) and recipients (with a drop down to pick and auto populate the recipients). Is that right?
or
should I create a select query that has all required fields in it? and base the form on that? (when I do that, I can't get a combo box to look up surgeons and auto populate)
or
should I create everything unbound and write an insert into code to fill the tables?

Are the relationships wrong? I am at a loss...

AARRGGHHH....this is frustrating because I know it is something simple that I am missing!!!:o

try this

The relationships are correct, when you build your form with form wizard base it on the surgeryschedule table and select all the fields. Then select the recipeients and surgeons tables and select all fields in each except the primary keys. Now accept the table and press 'Finish'
With this table it will have a lot of fields (I have tried it!), in the RecipientsID field enter the ID and the corresponding fields will autocomplete. Remeber that these fields are only for information you are actually only entering data into the RecipientsID field at this point. Similarly with SurgeryID.

If you want a drop down combobox then place one on your form, based on the primary key values in either your recipients or surgery table and on the last combobox wizard screen it will ask which field do you want to associate the combobox with - select recipientID or surgeryID as appropriate.

Okay...I'll get back with you later today, as soon as I work on it. Thank you for helping!

Thank you!

ChimpZter,
you are the man. I did what you said it worked perfectly. Thank you very much for the help.

As I get more into this database don't be surprised to see more questions. :D

Thank you again!
