Hello,

I could use the advice of the awesome professionals on this board.

I have a client in the construction equipment industry that is asking me to build them an inventory management system using Access.

Here are some of the criteria:

1) Need to be able to add / edit users (approx 10 at first)
2) Users will have varying levels of access.
3) Various queries will be set up to feed reports
4) 3 or 4 reports
5) 2 or 3 export to excel options
6) Ability to add/edit approx. 200 pieces of equipment via forms

How much would you charge for something like this? For consultation, testing and all?

Thanks!

I've developed 4 or 5 applications using Access before, but that was 2 years ago.

do you mean inventory (stock) or plant?

aside from the user interface which makes it much harder, this is fairly easy.

I wrote a plant register for someone in 2 days, as their accountant system was just a complete pig, and they couldnt get it working.

a true inventory/stock system is far harder

When pricing jobs, I do a full breakdown using Open-Workbench or MS Project, but whatever works for you. And Full breakdown, is FULL. Architecture, table design, form construction, coding, debugging. Add your hours to each task, then do a review, and for God's sake be honest with your hours, add about 20% as a contingency and write in a clause or have an agreement for Scope creep, don't let the client change the direction half way through and expect you to follow at the same price.
Do it this way and you can give him a full break down on what it will cost to get the job done and how long it will take.

Good luck mate :)
