Hi I am trying to work out why my dbase form says it 'cant update
currently locked'. There is no pattern to this message - today it has worked great and then started locking - on Monday it must have locked up 15 times

I have tried all solutions in previous posts on the subject to no avail.

I am wondering if any of the below could be contributing

I have 16 users using the dbase. - is this too many
I have 4 people with Admin rights. - is this too many?
My dbase and the secured.mdw are in the same windows directory - does this matter?
The dbase is Access 2000 - some of the users have Access 2002 - could
this cause a problem?

Depends on their intensity of use, but... could be. I used to get whacked with as few as 5 simultaneous users if they were all doing data imports at the same approximate time.

As long as all users are coming in through the workgroup and properly exiting the system, this is an unlikely candidate UNLESS your administrators like to tinker with forms, reports, etc. In other words, if they are well-behaved. But be sure that you don't have someone coming in without using the right workgroup. 'cause they come in from the system.mdw file in that case, as user ADMIN with OpenExclusive rights.

Absolutely. They usually HAVE to be in the same directory. But I hope it isn't really the /WINDOWS directory on your C drive. (More an issue of clutter than anything else is why I said I hoped it was elsewhere.)

With a Bill Gates product, version compatibility is a known problem 'cause he wants you to upgrade everyone to the latest, greatest (and most expensive) version available. So things "break" mysteriously when a new version comes out. But supposedly 2000 and 2002 can coexist peacefully if set up correctly including all required .DLL file references on 2002 matching the ones for 2000.

Database Problem

They are all directed through the security .mdw. All set up as full data users.
I have noticed that the users are not set up with permissions for anything but they are all part of the group 'Full Data Users'

The group Full Data User has OPEN/EXCLUSIVE permission checked for the database.
Surely this cant be right   :(
