I have been handed an Access database (Access 2002-2003 file format) to clean up and update as necessary. Currently I am trying to add new rows to a datasheet that is in a subform. I have had no trouble in the past adding rows and for some reason now I can't. In some instances I can update an existing row but never add a new one. Also, the records options are greyed out in the ribbon except for a select few that are not helpful (refresh all, totals, more). Can't add new record from their either. I am in the main form that contins the subform which contains the datasheet, in form view. Any suggestions as to why this has happened would be greatly appreciated.

I would check both main form and subform that AllowAdditions =yes

Also that the subform record source hasn't changed into one that does not allow updates (e.g. inclusion of calculated values in query)

You can also try changing the subform recordset type to dynaset inconsistent updates

Thank you very much CJ. The record source has not changed. Allow Additions was set to No so I have changed that to yes in both the main and sub form. I also changed Dynaset to Dynaset (Inconsistent Updates) in both forms. Unfortunately this did not do the trick. Any other ideas would be very much appreciated.

If you go into your subform recordsource and run it as a query, can you add new lines ther?

If yes, the problem is with your form, if no, then there is a problem with your query

Let me know what happens, may be easier if you can post a cut down copy of your db with some test data so I can see what is going on

I just realized that the comments section is yet another subform within a subform! That subform was not allowing for additions. I have changed Allow Additions to yes and now it is working. I can't thank you enough for your help!
