I'm trying to get a report that groups the records by Date Month. The Access wizard generated a report, but the field it made for the date doesn't work. It says:
=Format$([Date],"mmmm yyyy",0,0)
And when I try to open the report it asks for the Format$. How do I get it to put January, February etc... there?

Thanks a lot,
Meg

I'm not sure but Date is a reserved word in access change it for some other name,or try something like this Date By Month: Format$([tblName].[yourDatefield],"mmmm yyyy")

I tried changing the name of the date field to something else and then i also tried the other code you suggested, but i couldn't get either one to work. Either way, it still prompts me for the parameter value of Format$. Any more suggestions?

Hi btrflym

I agree with Rich's advice - so even if changing Date as a field name to something else (eg EntryDate) has not solved this problem, it will have saved from other problems later on!

Have you tried Format([EntryDate],"mmmm yyyy")?

If that doesn't work have you checked your References?
1. Via any form/report in design view, go to the coding and click on Tools.
2. Check if any reference has MISSING alongside the name - if so uncheck and find nearest alternative by scrolling down the list (e.g. for Microsoft DAO 3.51 ... ) - then select.
3. Close this window but stay in the coding window.
4. Go to Debug and select "Compile and Save All Modules" (Acces 97 wording). Run that and see if any errors are generated - if no, great, if yes fix them.
5. After finishing this you will need to compact and repair your database.

Thanks so much, Mr. Gorvin, for your help! Your suggestion to look at the MISSING references worked perfectly! Thank you also for giving me the instructions step-by-step and in very simple terms! Best of luck to you!

Hi btrflym

Glad you got it sorted!

By the way you do not need to be so formal - call me Rich (well, I am Rich by name, if not financially rich!).

Best wishes
